Peters Mountain Shelter
Stayed at a hotel with the home team in a Harrisburg hotel last night. Got our hair cut, Laundry, ate at 5 guys hamburger;Dan got new shoes and hat. I got two pair of pants since I put holes in my old ones with the 15+ falls I have had. And homemade cookies and bread.
We got dropped off back on the trail in Duncannon where the locals blocked off Main Street for the 8th annual 64' car show..with rock bands. That worked out well for us. No one seemed interested in trying to run us over. It was an easy walk out of town and back up to the mountain ridge lines.
Dan must have thought there was a zombie army following him. First there was the 4' black snake I almost stepped on. Dan thought I had stepped on a nail from the scream. Then there was the fallen tree 5' high level across the path. The top of my forehead hit that head on full hiking stride. And there I was flat on my backpack. This time a yelp of pain and a choice word.
The sad part is I'm just over halfway done and statistically I'm going to fall 15+ more times and slam my head into a tree 6 more times. Ahh well.
We are at the new Shelter with Johnny Sunami whom is wearing a Hawaiian lay from the Duncannon car party and about 6 day hikers.
Dan had to hike Half a mile down a hill and back and was all hot when he got back up.
I told him I'd get the water at the next Shelter. ( I got a source that says it's right at the Shelter). Yes Dan is much nicer than his Dad.
