6.4 AT673.2. 16.1 mile hike

Laurel Creek Shelter

Dan got his Medical School immunization tests completed at 9:30am. There was a new crowd of 8 people and 2 very good dogs at the Hostel. They all decided to stay another day because of expected rain and cold weather. Hey grow a pair! This is the AT not the bassinets.

Chris stayed behind because SMU was to call him about a PHD spot for him in Physics. I expect to see Chris again.

An old couple pulled up on road that I was crossing high up on The AT. They were SomeShines parents. I talked to them for 5 minutes. They said some shine was an hour behind me. I new all about them from hiking with someshine for a day. Again I hope Someshine makes good choices in the coming months. She is an extremely smart girl that is making life choices. You just hope they make the right choice. Some people never make it off the AT. Then you wonder if they made the right choice.

We caught up to PetesDragon group of 5 people they are a hard working young group of all ex military and one girl. They all get along and a lot of laughter. The girl did all but Virginia last year. She'll be headed off to a small college in Oregon this fall. They are all asleep in the Shelter.

Dan and I are in our tent.

The Angels Rest Hikers Haven was great. I met a retired coal miner from Kentucky whom had a lot to share of his experience on the AT. I got to know "The Natural" whom offered me ice cream when I needed it the most.

Tomorrow it will be below freezing when we get up and it is already cold now with a steady supply of sleet.
