6.5 AT696m 22.8m 9.5hr hike

Pickles Knob Shelter

Woke up to snow on our tent. We were the first to leave and the first to get to this Shelter. Joe, whom finished 9 years in Afghanistan is here as well as 41year old Nope a recovered drug addiction whom got clean, got a good job and gave his money to his stock broker. A few years later his stock broker calls and tells him he doesn't have to work any more. And Chocolate rain made it. He's a big guy from central PA whom finished his 4year college business degree but wants to hike before he decides what to do next.

The rest of last nights shelter crew didn't make it here.

The hike itself hit the river valleys, through hilly farm land. We hiked through a herd of beef cattle and their calfs.

We ran lols of ridge lines.

We found Trail Magic. A cooler of coke, orange crush, Mountain Dew still on ice.
Nice!

Saw the oldest oak tree in Virginia, over 18' in diameter.

Also stopped at a monument to the most decorated Ww2 vet.

All in all a great day.

I've got some pictures I'll post when I get service.
