7.2 AT786.6 27m hike

John Hollows Shelter

Slept like a baby next to a mountain stream. Then got up before sunrise to start on our 27 mile hike.

The hike started on a 9.5 mile uphill by mountain streams to hill tops. The mountain flowers are all in bloom.

Saw about 14 day hikers on the way. I particularly liked this old couple from Australia who talked about their 4 month tour through all of the US. They have seen more than I have even after We finish the AT.

The trails took a more western look, long switchbacks and going from mountain to mountain. At one point Dan hollered from one mountain to me on the other. I asked him where the zip line was cause that would be easier than having to get there by Trail.

I saw a sign on The At that said "James River foot bridge in 5 miles. It is illegal to jump off the bridge and there are things under the surface that can be hazardous."

I might add that the shock of hitting that mountain spring fed water might do something too.

We made it across the foot bridge. But after I finished hiking that 27 miles I went down to the mountain stream took off my shirt, cleaned it and myself. Wow did that feel good.

Since I keep passing Dan's mileage marks he's talking about doing 3 more 27mile days. Ok Dan lets see what the Ole Dad can do. Bring it on!
