Bryant Ridge Shelter
Started hiking before dawn. Started and finished with a tshirt. Nice day.
I met a 63 year old retired navy man who was resting on a log. His wife had past but he perked up when he started talking about his grandkids. His California grandson wrote him a letter asking if he'd like to hike the PCT that goes by his house.
He said he jumped to the phone and called him.
Dan got some more reading time in while I was getting uphill time in.
Well about 3pm we got finished getting water from the Creek and Dan headed off while I was still adjusting my pack straps.
I get on the trail and my bison sized feet spook out what I think is a big black snake.
I jump and scream and move on. A mile later Dan is waiting for me. I ask him about the black snake. He said "Yes it was black but it rattled at me before it took off and I couldn't get a video of it. So I saw my First rattle snake.
Staying at this Shelter with a Lawyer and a phsycotherapist. They are section hiking together. I asked him about the bird call I kept hearing all last night. Whip-0-wee! Well the physiotherapist is also a bird watcher and he says it's a Whiperill. Apparently it does that during matting season.
