Georgia bound

Took The LabPac to Glendale flood and waved to Jerry Homeshire whom was helping a scared little kid crossing a busy corner by BAE. Great job Jerry!

Did my last minute chores. Took Frodo to the village diner. Got the rental and Frodo has just driven by Wilkesbare. 12 hrs of driving to go! Yep this is borring. I think dump this car in Georgia and walk to Maine!

Final Pack before we head to Georgia!

Frodo told Samwise to empty the Pack (3rd time in 3 days) except this time he switched My Gregory 100liter pack with his 75 liter Appalachian Trail High Serria Pack. "Your pack fits me better" said Frodo. Ok who can argue with Frodo least wise his best Sherpa buddie..Samwise gamgee...

This time we packed everything, food. My new pack is now 51lbs!!! Crap...and I got nothing but...well 13 lbs of food. I'll have to eat fast on the trail to lighten my load. Frodo's pack weighs 40lbs fully loaded...ok Frodo has to carry the ring...and that's a heavey burden and Frodo weighes 51lbs less than me...so I should carry more.

I think our packs will shed their weight quickly...anything not essential we will give away....a lesson repeated by many overburdened AT Hikers.

Tomorrow to Alpharetta Georgia! To meet up with Samwise's old College Roomate Pete. One last Hobbit gathering with Pete and Susan, and Katie and Tim (Samwise's daughter and his daughter's fiancé).

Why the Trail Names? And Why The Epic Journey?

ho picked our Trail Names? Frodo (Dan) did.
Why? Cause Frodo is the boss of the trip.

Why Are  Frodo (Daniel) and Samwise gamgee (Me, Dad ) going on
a 2200 mile epic adventure on The Appalachian Trail?
I can't speak for Frodo...but Samwise is getting old and wants to be with his son for 5 months
before he goes off to Medical School. Hopefully he'll pass this adventure some spirit on to his
hobbit friends and his next generation of The Clan.
I'm greatly looking forward to this Journey!
